I have a habit of checking my mailbox every day. When I opened the internal mailbox of 500px in the morning, I found that a 500px staff member had sent me a private message, as shown in the picture below:
After reading the content he sent, I was naturally very surprised because this seemed like an official offer from 500px to me... But amidst the surprise, there was also a hint of disturbance. In my freshman year, I was scammed out of some money due to a leak of user information from Ouyi. I have some PTSD when it comes to NFTs, virtual currencies, and similar content. So I asked some friends in the photography circle, and they said I could give it a try. This should be genuine, but I should pay attention to copyright and benefits in subsequent communication. If 500px wants to freeload, then forget it.
After listening to his words, I felt a little more certain, so I accepted the conversation. I would be really grateful to 500px if the NFT they minted for me brings subsequent profits.
Looking back to when I first entered the photography circle earlier this year, I came across many photography communities such as 500px, Flickr, and 1x. However, due to issues like Flickr's unattractive interface and 1x's expensive membership fee, I ultimately chose to stay with 500px. The difference between a 500px member and a paid member is minimal, with the main distinction being that paid members can upload more than 21 images per week, while regular members are limited to 21 or fewer. To be honest, the restriction doesn't affect me much as I haven't taken enough photos in a week to reach 21.
500px supports free licensing of your own photos, which I think is the best thing they do. The so-called license allows 500px reviewers to assess whether your photos have commercial value, and this service is free. Photos that pass the review will be displayed on the "License" page of the homepage (of course, you can also manually cancel the display), as shown below:
500px is really a great website, the only regret is that it was fully acquired by Visual China in 2018... Visual China's reputation is not that good... Apart from this, 500px is indeed a very good website.
Looking back on my years in college, I participated in two photography competitions organized by the school, but none of my photos made it to the final round... Most of the winning works were small flowers with a shallow depth of field (which are also very cute). But thinking back, it's really sad... Fortunately, after a period of learning and receiving official recognition from 500px, it has strengthened my confidence in photography.
Welcome to visit my 500px photo wall. If you have any questions, you can leave a message or send an email to my mailbox at [email protected].
Because all my photos are taken with an iPhone, please don't focus too much on the equipment. While having good equipment is great, what's more important is the person behind the equipment. I'm not boasting about how good my photos are, I just want everyone to focus on deeper aspects rather than just envy the surface.
